Our story

Nantucket isn't just a destination.
It's a community. And you're part of it.

ACK Deals started with a simple frustration — and a belief that the real spirit of this island deserves a home that's always open.

If you've ever really spent time on Nantucket — not just a weekend, but a whole season — you know about the Hospital Thrift Shop on India Street. Three floors of clothing, books, housewares, and hidden treasures at prices that feel almost impossible for Nantucket. It has been part of island life since 1929, raising over $8 million for Nantucket Cottage Hospital. It is beloved by everyone who knows it.

But look at the hours. Monday, Wednesday, Friday: open until 3:30pm. Tuesday and Thursday: two short windows, with an evening slot until 8pm. Saturday: 10am to 12:30pm only. Sunday: closed. And when summer ends — it closes entirely. For the line cook finishing a double shift, the hotel housekeeper working six days a week, or the year-round local who just missed the window again — the door is locked. That quiet frustration is where ACK Deals began.

We came to Nantucket the way thousands of people do every year — to work a summer season, to fall in love with the island, and to wish there was more of it we could hold onto.

"Nantucket isn't a tourist trap. It's one of the most quietly diverse, genuinely hardworking communities in New England — and it deserves a digital home that reflects that."

The numbers tell a story that surprises most people. According to the Nantucket Data Platform, the island's summer population has grown nearly 70% since 2014 — hitting over 65,000 people on peak days. And yet the seasonal workforce has actually shrunk. By 2022, each seasonal worker was serving 32% more people than just three years earlier.

Nantucket Magazine once called the island a "United Nations" — and the description fits. Workers arrive from Jamaica, Brazil, Eastern Europe, the Caribbean, Central America, and across the US. Many come back summer after summer. Many eventually stay.

ACK Deals was built for all of them. For the visitor who wants to go beyond the tourist trail. For the first-time summer worker who needs a bike, a room, or a second-hand wetsuit. For the year-round local with a craft to sell or a hidden gem to share. For the off-island Nantucket lover who wants something genuinely made on the island — a piece of the place — long after the ferry has sailed.

This is a marketplace, yes. But it's also an invitation. Come see the island the way the people who live here see it. Discover the artisan whose studio you'd never find on your own. Buy the handwoven basket that took three weeks to make. Book the fishing charter with the captain who's worked these waters his whole life.

We use AI behind the scenes — surfacing the right vendors, answering your island questions, helping local businesses get found. But everything you experience here is built around one thing: the warmth and character of Nantucket itself.

Welcome to ACK Deals. Welcome to the island.

A note about the Hospital Thrift Shop

The Nantucket Hospital Thrift Shop is a genuine island treasure. In 2025 alone it donated a record $660,000 to Nantucket Cottage Hospital. ACK Deals isn't a replacement — it's an extension of the same spirit. If you're on the island during their hours, go. You won't regret it.
